A Night to Remember...

01/02/2010

On 17 October 2009, the Preston James Fund celebrated its annual charity ball - A Night in Fantasia - in what turned out to be a brilliant night, raising over $60,000 for research into children's life support.

The night's location set the scene with the stunning river views from Gianni's Events Portside. When the blinds were initially raised, the guests on the balcony were treated to their first glimpse of the world of illusion and wonder in the ballroom.

The gracious Amanda McLeay was again our host and our Ambassador Grant Hackett was on hand to chat with guests and spread the message of what we were there to support.

A highlight of the night was the lovely Anna Akacich who has received treatment through the Mater Children's Hospital Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. When asked, Anna and her parents, Joe and Clare, agreed for Anna to take part in the important research that we support. Anna and Joe bravely stood in front of the 300-strong audience, recounting their story with great humour and sincerity.

Later in the night came the fun part! Auctioneer John Creswick used his booming voice to stir the masses, in hopes they would empty their pockets - and empty them they did! A three day cruise on the Bali Hai, donated by Joe Akacich, went for an outstanding $9,500. The stunning Michael Zavros sketch was another big item, picked up for a cool $5,000. Manx restaurant chef, Paul McGiven also drew the big bucks - $4,500 for a dinner for 10. Practically Mc-given away! But what made the night, above all of the auction items, dancing, food and wine was the faces that filled the room.

Thank you all for your support. The 2009 A Night in Fantasia Ball was everything the Fund's Committee hoped for and more.

With special thanks:
