Our supporters never cease to amaze us. Despite difficult economic times and an unseasonably cold night, our warm-hearted supporters donned their dancing shoes and opened their wallets, celebrating long into the night for the Preston James Fund’s Autumn Fair Ball.

The event raised produced a staggering profit of $70,000. This eclipsed our expectations and was thanks to the support of so many, including our Major Sponsor, UQ Business School. Rest assured, the reward was worth it. The Preston James Fund is delighted to be able to provide $70,000 to the Mater Children’s Hospital Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for the purchase of life-saving equipment.

For those in attendance it may come as little surprise that so much was raised. The atmosphere was electric, with MC Anthony Bell revving up the audience and leading the donations with a generous donation of his own. So many others followed suit, generously donating and bidding throughout the night.

Anthony is CEO of Bell Partners and Loyal Foundation and skipper of the Investec Loyal Yacht (winner of the 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and competitor in the last three races).

The heartfelt speeches by Preston James Fund co-chairs Mary and Belinda, and by Preston’s sister Noelle reminded all why we support such an important cause. While Kelly Foster, our committee member and Paediatric Intensive Care nurse, faithfully spoke the poignant words on behalf of a mother of whose daughter has been treated in the PICU.

Our great friend and auctioneer John Creswick delivered the auction the only way he knows how, with great gusto! The live auctions raised $18,750 on the night while the silent auctions raised close to $10,000.

Entertainment on the night was provided by the very talented Sheldon College Jazz Quartet and the crowd favourite, Band of Blue, while Melanie Hendrix, our friend and photographer snapped away and was a brilliant support, as always. We had a group of tireless volunteers who supported the night, for which we are so grateful.

Huge thanks go to our Major Sponsor for the event, UQ Business School, who supported us in so many ways on and before the night. Also, our sincere thanks go to our generous Corporate Partners, NAB and Dialog.

Last but not least to our great friends: the creative genius of Smoke Creative, the unwavering support of Gen3, to our friend and Ambassador Grant Hackett, and to Victoria Park Golf Course for the excellent service on the night and in the weeks leading up to the event. The Marquee looked amazing.

We will update this site once the funds have reached the Hospital. Stay tuned.
